In 2014 at the age of 2 Julian was diagnosed with Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma also known as DIPG, an aggressive inoperable tumor located in the brain stem.  From that day forward he took on his fight against the evils of cancer with the spirit, strength and relentlessness of all his favorite superheroes such as Spiderman, The Hulk, Captain America and Batman and became…SUPERHERO JULIAN. He quickly learned just the horrors of chemo, biopsy, radiation, ERs and hospital stays.  With all that his small but mighty body was going through, at times he would be more concerned about his super friends at clinic or in the hospital who were not feeling well.  He was always willing to give up one of his toys to make his friends smile.  That first holiday season we know that something as small as a fever could land us hospitalized.  Not knowing whether or not that we would spend the holiday in the hospital, we knew other children and their families would.  This notion gave birth to the Superhero Julian Toy Drive which has brought joy and smiles to hundreds of children, teens and their families during the holidays.

Julian battled DIPG relentlessly for 4 ½ years and fought just as hard to make others smile up.  In June of 2018 Julian became our guardian angel. His legacy and mission of helping others continues today through your donations and the donation of his own. In efforts of finding a cure to DIPG, Superhero Julian donated his brain tumor to research.  We pray that one day DIPG and all pediatric cancers can be cured and our children are given the chance to be children and live out their dreams.

Toy guidelines:

  • To prevent infection, we only accept new toys, books and DVD’s.
  • We cannot accept stuffed toys or toys with small pellets or beans.
  • Toys should be sturdy and free of any parts which may pinch.
  • Please avoid toys which can break easily and leave sharp edges. (i.e. made of glass or brittle plastic)
  • No toys designed to promote aggressive behaviors (e.g. toy weapons of any kind nor violent video games or movies).
  • All craft materials must be non-toxic (e.g., markers, glue, paint)

Gift cards are also welcomed.  Adolescent patients and teens can benefit less from a toy and more from an educational game or book and a gift card can be distributed to that patient as a gift during their recovery. Recommendations: Target, Walmart, and iTunes.
